Tate Stevens, who was mentored by music exec L.A. Reid on the second season of “The X Factor,” has won the Fox singing competition.

L.A. Reid will soon be an ex-judge on “The X Factor.”
Now that the new “X Factor” season is being aired on local TV screens, we have the opportunity to more perceptively note how the recently concluded Filipino version of the singing tilt compares with the original.

FANS of “X Factor Philippines” finalist Allen Sta. Maria were thrown for a loop last Sunday, when their bet was eliminated from contention, just before the Final Three title square-off tonight (with the winner being announced tomorrow). To make things worse for “girls” group mentor Charice, her other surviving bet, KZ Tandingan, shared bottom-dweller position with Allen.

YANI Delos Reyes, graduate student: “After ‘Bayaning Third World,’ we have not heard anything from the great director, Mike de Leon. He is a genius, and his films were consistently brilliant. “The X Factor USA” hit a home run last week with its all-important telecast that required the new singing tilt’s four mentor-jurors to cut the fat and the chitchat and select the competition’s finalists.

After 10 productive years discovering new singing stars like Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia Barrino, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry and Clay Aiken, “American Idol” (AI) rules on TV. But its reign is being challenged this season by “The X Factor USA,” (X) with “AI” veteran judge Simon Cowell as producer and head juror. Does the viewing world [...]
