In the Philippines, the run-up to Christmas usually begins in September, long before the so-called “Christmas creep” commences after Thanksgiving in the United States. When the “ber” months come, you’ll hear radio stations playing Mel Torme’s “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire),” “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” and Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas.”
Veteran singer Rod Stewart said Saturday he was “devastated” that a dose of the flu would prevent him attending his old group’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this weekend.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, a musical celebration that in the past has included awkward moments, touching tributes and unforgettable performances, is set for Saturday night in Public Hall before 6,000 fans, 1,400 well-heeled guests and many of music’s biggest stars.
