Ruel Bayani’s “One More Try” is the melodrama to beat in the ongoing Metro Manila Film Festival, copping the Best Picture award and doing well at the box office, to boot. It stars Star Magic regulars, Angelica Panganiban, Angel Locsin and Zanjoe Marudo—plus fresh import Dingdong Dantes, from the other side of the entertainment pond.
All that Angelica Panganiban wants for boyfriend John Lloyd Cruz this year is for him to slow down on work. “He’s such a workaholic and pushes himself even when he’s sick,” Angelica said. “I want him to have a balanced life, and have time to spend with his family, or do what he pleases.”
Online jeers, more than cheers, continue in reaction to the 38th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) awards given on Thursday night. The two most pointed posts on Facebook as of Friday night described the best picture citation for Star Cinema’s “One More Try” as “justifying crap with more crap” and “celebrating and rewarding mediocrity.”
On Tuesday evening, inside a Star Cinema conference room at ABS-CBN’s Eugenio Lopez Jr. Building, television crews from rival network GMA 7 carefully set up their equipment before the table where a pocket interview was about to happen.
