By
Red Hot Chili Peppers

If there is one foreign band that I know of that is in almost everyone’s wish list to see perform here in the Philippines, the Red Hot Chili Peppers would be high up there.

My ‘predictions’ for 2014

By
Miley Cyrus. AP FILE PHOTO

Miley Cyrus will continue to push  the envelope even more in her edginess and her risque live performances onstage. There is nothing, it seems, that Miley will not do to prove a point and make a statement. Whether her fans will be more pleased with what might be her next actions is not her issue. [...]

Has Gloc-9 reached iconic status?

By
Gloc-9. FILE PHOTO

I believe Gloc-9 wouldn’t have reached this far in his professional career if he had chosen only to speak of “safe”, superficial, or even nonsensical topics in his songs. Instead, he has long ago decided it is his role to take the high road and be the “mouthpiece” for our beloved nation and its people.

Has Gloc-9 reached iconic status?

By
Gloc-9

Gloc-9, in my estimation, has already passed the halfway mark from reaching the iconic status of the late Francis Magalona! I know some people may disagree with my statement. Nevertheless, I say this based on three factors: Gloc-9’s extraordinary lyrical skills; the innate talent he possesses as a rapper; and the impressive list of artists he has worked with that represent various genres and who come from a strata of generations.

Jennifer Hudson is the first new judge for Season 13 of ‘American Idol’

By
Jennifer Hudson

Several news agencies have already confirmed that Jennifer Hudson has inked her deal to be the first new judge for Season 13 of ‘American Idol.’ This is great news–it will be a refreshing change to finally have someone who was in the show itself and who now has carved a name for herself and become a multi-awarded artist, even winning an Oscar!

Other news coming in is that ‘American Idol’ will only have three judges this time (again) and no longer four. But take this specific bit of news with a grain of salt as creative changes are constantly being made, back and forth. Furthermore, there are still conflicting reports about this news bit. But it is worth pointing out.

But why only have one former ‘American Idol’ contestant fill in the soon-to-be-vacant seats of the judging panel? FOX and the producers of ‘American Idol’ have thought this one out and now want the other remaining judges to also be all former contestants of the show. Indeed, who better than those who have had their own baptism of fire at ‘American Idol’ to serve in the panel of judges? After all, they would now know who among the future contestants have “it” to make it in the real world–meaning that they, too, will excel outside of ‘Idol.’

At the moment, those others rumored to be joining Jennifer Hudson in the judging panel are Clay Aiken, Adam Lambert, and Kelly Clarkson. This is certainly going to be a complete overhaul for the show–a new adrenalin shot to give it a much needed boost to its ratings.

If there is a former that would mean the most to longtime fans of the show, in my opinion, it has to be Kelly Clarkson. She was the first ever champion of ‘Idol’ and she has set the bar for future champions to follow. If–and that’s a big if–they can get her also to join the judging panel, her addition would be very meaningful and would weigh in more heavily than those of other more recent former contestants of the acclaimed show. I would see more significance in the presence of Kelly Clarkson alongside Jennifer Hudson. Further, both Clarkson and Hudson may bring back ‘American Idol’ to its former glory days of being a family-oriented show, minus the crazy antics and meltdowns viewers have been fed with in recent seasons. But let’s keep our fingers crossed for that.

The-Voice-of-the-Philippines-4-Coaches-300x300

Just a few days ago, when I read who the coaches of the “The Voice of the Philippines” would be, I had a huge grin on my face and exclaimed “Wow!”, followed by “Holy Crap!” This is going to be something else–to bring these four artists together for a show was a little bit surreal for me. These are some of the most important–and let’s not forget the word “influential”–artists, currently. Not one coach here will feel like he or she lacks “personality” or does not deserve to be there.

Gary Valenciano and his Faith

By
GARYVALENCIANO

I dreamt I was walking in a long white corridor. It seemed an endlessly long hallway with many rooms on either side with Roman numerals posted on their brown doors. I could faintly hear a song being played but I wasn’t sure what it was. As soon as I entered a room with a high ceiling, the words of the song reverberated within its confines. The words became unmistakable. I was hearing the chorus of ‘”I Will Be Here” by Gary Valenciano being played over and over again. As I looked around the room, I couldn’t find Gary V. Neither could I find the source from where it was coming. It was as if it was being played from above or somewhere unseen.

Song Review: ‘Diamonds’ by Rihanna

By
riahana1

Rihanna proves to be one of the busiest pop stars around, if not the most consistent in releasing consecutive studio-albums. ‘Diamonds’ is from Rihanna’s seventh studio album entitled: “Unapologetic”. The lead single was produced by StarGate and Benny Blancco. It was written by Sia who has collaborated with Rihanna numerous times in the past. Unlike [...]

The video–gone viral and shown on numerous shows–of Nicki Minaj cursing and threatening violence against Mariah Carey confirms that the feud between the two divas is indeed true and happening.   However, there are still speculations whether that outburst from Nicki Minaj was staged by the producers for ratings? The thing is whether it is [...]

Lady goes Gaga

By
LADY Gaga at the MoA Arena

How can the latest wacky outfit of Lady Gaga be relevant and worthy of being called music news? It should be relegated to the fashion section instead. It really shouldn’t be for music. I just don’t get the gist of all this gimmickry and it is not because I don’t understand what she is doing. Obviously, it is for media mileage and publicity! Well, bad publicity, in fact. Yeah, I get it… it is still publicity. All these calculated stunts and controversies she has been doing the past few years are getting tiresome. I bet she is already running out of ideas to do to seek attention or rather, her publicist is running out of ideas to suggest to her.
