Filipino-American Adriana Latonio did not make it to the Top 10 of the reality show “American Idol” in last week’s round. The 10 finalists will get to headline the show’s summer concert tour set after the finale. Latonio can still join the tour if she manages to score enough votes and top the wild-card round to be held this week. Then again, there are nine other hopefuls vying for the same spot. The big news on the entertainment scene provides sweet vindication to people like us who believe that faith should be a part of life and entertainment, not a “holy irrelevance”
Filipino-AMERICAN Adriana Latonio breezed through the Las Vegas round, earning her a spot in the girls’ Top 10. Latonio got a standing ovation from judges Keith Urban and Randy Jackson. Judge Mariah Carey gave Latonio an A+. Judge Nicki Minaj asked Latonio, who was shown in a video as an Alaska resident, if she’s Filipino. Latonio quipped: “Yes, ma’am!” Two more Fil-Ams, Bryant Tadeo and Bridget “Jett” Hermano, will vie for slots in the Top 10 boys and girls next week.
Various blogs and fan sites have come out with spoilers on the current season of the reality talent search “American Idol.” One blogger (goseegeo.blogspot.com) identified the 40 final aspirants—which purportedly include three Filipino-Americans Bryant Tadeo, Adriana Latonio and Bridget “Jett” Hermano. Tadeo is from Hawaii. Latonio has been compared to last year’s runner-up Jessica Sanchez who’s of Filipino-Mexican descent. Hermano won Asian-American Idol in her home city of Seattle.
