Getting Reacquainted with the Music of Linkin Park

By
Linkin Park 3

The last time Linkin Park held a concert in the Philippines was nine years ago. That was at the height of their popularity and they were second to none when it came to their own unique brand of music. To say they were huge at that early stage of their careers is the better word to describe the band’s international success. Who had not heard of their hits in those years? Linkin Park dominated the airwaves, record sales, and music channels for a good number of years. You could hear their songs being played everywhere. That was the impact that Linkin Park had at the time.

Factors hurting ‘American Idol’

By
'American Idol' logo

Not since you had the producers decide to bring together such an eclectic group of personalities and artists who are polar opposites of each other that you knew tensions would quickly rise and give way to some on-air drama. Who knew that there was legitimate “heat” between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj? It was puzzling at first since there was no reported “beef” between the two prior to their joining the judging panel. Apparently, almost nobody knew the reality of the situation until it was out there for everybody to see and to have more than an earful of!

Single Review: ‘Still Into You’ by Paramore

By
Paramore pic 1

Paramore’s second single from their 2013 self-titled studio album, “Still Into You,” is probably the most pop-driven and bubbly-mood sound that I have heard the band. It still follows the same sonic-template set by the lead single “Now”. One of the first thoughts that entered my mind after listening to “Still Into You” was: “This doesn’t sound like a Paramore track at all if it were not for the brilliant vocals of Hayley Williams.” But that is what seems to be the theme in their latest effort—change.

Cheers to PSY, the ‘Gentleman’

By
Psy-gentleman-3

PSY, the biggest K-pop artist in the world, is aiming to duplicate the overwhelming and amazing success of his worldwide dance craze “Gangnam Style”. The Korean rapper hopes his newest single “Gentleman” will have the same charm and warm appeal that “Gangnam Style” had. While it is no easy task to match–much less surpass–the unbelievable popularity of his previous mega hit, the pressure on him isn’t that much since it was PSY who made that benchmark, so he comes out the winner even if he can’t beat his own record. It’s still a win-win situation because it was he himself who made that unprecedented record in the first place !

The-Voice-of-the-Philippines-4-Coaches-300x300

Just a few days ago, when I read who the coaches of the “The Voice of the Philippines” would be, I had a huge grin on my face and exclaimed “Wow!”, followed by “Holy Crap!” This is going to be something else–to bring these four artists together for a show was a little bit surreal for me. These are some of the most important–and let’s not forget the word “influential”–artists, currently. Not one coach here will feel like he or she lacks “personality” or does not deserve to be there.

The troubled pop star

By
Lil Twist and Justin Bieber

I think Justin Bieber’s troubles really begun after Selena Gomez broke up with him again. I remember reading reports that he was so emotionally devastated by the break-up that he just locked himself up in the hotel room and refused to perform that night. It was perhaps childish on his part but sometimes people have to be reminded that no matter how huge he is as a pop star and how internationally famous he has become, that deep down he still is a kid at heart.

Franco Reyes all set for his first major solo concert

By

The first time I heard of Franco Reyes was when he was the frontman of the rock supergroup called FRANCO. I also recall when FRANCO was featured on the cover of a music magazine a few years ago. After reading the write-up for the band, the piece intrigued me and got my interest growing as FRANCO was being hyped to be the next big thing in the local scene.

Aerosmith is finally coming

By
aerosmith 1

When reports first came in that Aerosmith would be coming to perform here in Manila on a yet to be confirmed date, I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it. Was it a rumor that grew out of proportion or was it backed by credible inside information? After a few days of speculations, the question was finally answered. When the formal announcement was made and confirmed also in this very website by a fellow music aficionado, it is now all systems go! The concert date has been set for May 8, 2013 and the choice of venue, at the SM MOA arena.
