‘Wowowillie’ summoned by MTRCB anew

/ 06:33 PM April 20, 2013

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has summoned the TV5 noontime show “Wowowillie” once again to a hearing set tomorrow (Monday) “due to the skimpy outfits and excessive flesh exposure of female dancers.”

In a statement sent to the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Friday, the board singled out a specific episode of the game-variety show, hosted by Willie Revillame that was aired on April 16.

The board explained that the meeting is being called because of its “concern over the welfare of both women and children.”

In Monday’s meeting, TV5 and Wil Productions representatives are expected to “explain and present concrete and permanent measures” to avoid similar offensive scenes in the future, according to the board’s statement.

In March, the MTRCB likewise summoned TV5 and Wil Productions to a hearing after Revillame castigated cohost Ethel Booba on air on the show’s February 28 episode. Booba also made “unsavory” remarks about another network’s talent. As a result, TV5 and Wil Productions attended a gender sensitivity seminar held on April 3 as ordered by the MTRCB.

The board further noted that TV5 signified its commitment to ensure decent presentation of women in media when it signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the MTRCB in March 2012.

Sought for comment on the latest summons, Jay Montelibano, business unit head of Wil Productions, told the Inquirer: “We’ll have to go through [with] the proceedings…we acknowledge the policies that the MTRCB dictates and we’re here to abide [by them].”
