Cheer Factor: Restored ‘Maynila’ in Cannes

Briccio Santos, chairman of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), has announced that the digitally restored 1975 Lino Brocka movie, “Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag,” will have its world premiere at the Cannes International Film Festival in May. “Maynila” is currently undergoing digital restoration at the L’Immagine Ritrovata in Italy, through the efforts of the FDCP and the World Cinema Foundation, chaired by Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese. Last year, FDCP made possible the premiere of Manuel Conde’s restored “Genghis Khan” at the Venice fest. Bayani San Diego Jr.

    I hope both Mr. Roco and Ms. Koronel can come to grace the world premiere in Cannes. I am so proud of the movie and of course the late director, Mr. Brocka. Congratulations and truly a great honor for the Philippines.

    i wonder if pinapapanuod pa rin ito sa mga student ng humanities ii (or i?) sa up diliman? ginawan ko pa nga to ng reaction paper haha! one of the best phil films of all time. hanggang ngayon, relevant pa rin ang issues na tina-tackle sa movieng ito! ito ang klase ng pelikula na dapat panuorin at di yung mga walang kwentang vice ganda, enteng, agimat, kim chiu, sarah-john lloyd!!!
