Aerosmith is finally coming

/ 02:07 AM March 09, 2013

When reports first came in that Aerosmith would be coming to perform here in Manila on a yet to be confirmed date, I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it. Was it a rumor that grew out of proportion or was it backed by credible inside information? After a few days of speculations, the question was finally answered. When the formal announcement was made and confirmed also in this very website by a fellow music aficionado, it is now all systems go! The concert date has been set for May 8, 2013 and the choice of venue, at the SM MOA arena.

This is major breaking news for the concert scene here in the Philippines, Why? It is because concert goers are “hungry” for something new and different. With Aerosmith, they will not only be getting one of the greatest rock bands ever of all of time, but also certified Rock N’ Roll Hall of Famers and a band that a lot of people thought would never come here to perform. Thankfully it is no longer wishful thinking but a reality which will soon take place.

The month of May is still a few months away yet and it gives a lot of time for Aerosmith fans to relive all their memories when they first became acquainted with the music of Aerosmith. You bet there will be a lot of music purists, music aficionados, music critics, loyal fans, and some curious spectators who will be going. This is certainly one concert that will bring in all kinds of music lovers. I think everyone has heard of Aerosmith at one point of their lives.

FEATURED STORIES

Unless of course you are still a toddler or living under a rock. Big words I know! But definitely true! The rocker in me is hard to contain when I speak of one of the bands that I was amazed with and admired when I was still growing up.

We are speaking of Aerosmith here. AEROSMITH !!!! These guys are not only icons but they are already considered rock legends in their own right. As a music aficonado, they are high on that list of bands that have influenced so many and they are one of the longest active running bands ever. The Boston quintet have been making music together since the 70’s during which period they were at neck-to-neck with the British invasion of bands that was taking over the U.S. They were the answer to bands like Led Zeppelin at the time.

In my opinion, I rank Aerosmith to be in the top 20 bands of all time. Aerosmith has earned a formidable collection of recognitions. Their back catalog of songs is a long list of classics, crowd favorites, rarities, and B-sides. Plus, they do have a number of select songs that have become cult-favorites over time.

If there is one can’t-miss-and-must-go-to concert for the entire month of May, it is this one. You can forget in the meantime the bands that have been here more than 4 times already. Because more or less, you kinda know already what to expect and what their set list will be.

So, there would be little or no new surprises at hand to watch a band that has been here numerous times without their having released any new album/s. Well, that is my point of view. And wouldn’t it be better to watch a legendary band that has such a long impressive reportoire of songs that you wouldn’t be really sure what to expect in the set list and what songs would be included and what songs may not make the cut?

The thousands who will be lucky enough to purchase tickets and who will be able to get in at the SM MOA arena for a concert of a lifetime are just a fraction of the millions of Filipinos who have been influenced by the music of Aerosmith over the decades. The Aerosmith concert will make the dream of music aficionados like myself come true. And it won’t just be one generation of people that will be represented at the SM MOA arena–it will range from the grandparents with their own children down to grandkids watching Aerosmith together. This is an example of a band that can unite generations of fans and bring them all together for one night!
