“Lousy Boys” of Congress joins benefit for journalist with cancer
MANILA, Philippines–A group of young leaders known as the “Lousy Boys” of Congress will share center stage with two of the country’s performing bands next week in a dance-and-musical benefit concert for a veteran journalist now battling cancer.
The concert dubbed as “On the Beat” will be held on August 10 at the Celebrity Sports Plaza in Quezon City for Raul Beltran, who has been covering the House of Representatives until he was diagnosed with cancer. He has been confined at a hospital in Quezon City.
“On the Beat” was named after Beltran’s opinion column in People’s Journal Tonight. The concert was produced by his colleagues at the House of Representatives.
The “Lousy Boys,” composed of Anwaray Representative Noel (An Waray) Aurora Representative Sonny Angara, Laguna Representative Justin Chipeco (NP, Laguna), former Congressmen Gilbert Remulla and Mujiv Hataman and Joel Villanueva (CIBAC), now director general of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority will be the guest band invited to perform in the event.
Prominent personalities and members of the House of Representatives like Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao, Leyte Representative Lucy Torres-Gomez and Cavite Representative Lani Mercado were also invited to grace the event.
Topbilled by the much sought-after The Bloomfields and Gabby Claudio’s electrifying The Double Vision, “On the Beat” promises to be a night of dance and live musical entertainment for Senate and House members and other guests.
Claudio, former presidential political adviser, heads the now in-demand The Double Vision. He also plays bass guitar and acts as band manager.
Since it started going professional, the group has dazzled young and elder audiences with their musical versatility and energetic stage presence. It plays regularly at Chef and Brewer Bar-Restaurant in Ortigas, regaling audiences with a superb variety of listening and dance music from the 70s to the 90s.
