Getting to know Risa

Risa Hontiveros loves wearing the alampay (shawl) in green (for environment and agrarian reform), pink (for women’s rights) or purple (for reproductive health). At St. Scholastica’s College, she was introduced to activism when she spoke against the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant.
Healthy lifestyle
As a journalist, she received a KBP Golden Dove award for Best Female Newscaster and was a 10 Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) awardee in 2001. She became the secretary-general of the Coalition for Peace, and was part of the government panel for the peace talks. She’s a single parent, with four kids—her husband passed away in 2005.
