All eyes on Ate Guy’s homecoming
A GRAND fans day for Nora Aunor
As we went to press, we received word that Nora Aunor had finally boarded the flight back to Manila from Los Angeles, California. By the time this column comes out, Noranians should be having a feast, welcoming back their Superstar after eight long years.
TV5 is hosting a grand fans day for La Aunor on Aug. 7. She will top-bill a miniseries to be directed by Mario O’Hara for the Kapatid network.
Boyet de Leon, Ryan Agoncillo, Edgar Allan Guzman and Eugene Domingo are being tapped to guest in Nora’s TV comeback.
I asked Kuya Germs if Ate Guy would be able to act as usual, in spite of problems with her voice. “Iba naman ang speaking voice sa singing voice,” he explained. “Kaya naman niya umarte pero ’di pa siguro kaya kumanta uli. Sana, magkaayos sila nung nag-opera sa kanya kasi magulo pa ’pag mag-demanda. Mabait naman si Guy. Lahat nakukuha sa magandang usapan. Basta promise niya, hindi mabibigo ang mga fans niya.”
After all these years, Ate Guy still has charisma. Not every star is given a second or a third chance. Hopefully, she won’t put it all to waste. All eyes are now on her legendary orbs, which have launched a thousand award-winning performances—and controversies.
Shower of blessings
Cinemalaya best actor Edgar Allan Guzman has come a long way from his “Mr. Pogi” days. Now he need not earn “pogi points” because he has definitely arrived. Edgar Allan is signing up with Regal Films this week and is set to do an episode for “Maalaala Mo Kaya,” with no less than Kim Chiu as costar.
EDGAR Allan Guzman: Overwhelmed
“I am overwhelmed,” he says. “I thought this day would never come. Maraming nag-discourage sa akin. ’Di raw ako sisikat. Nagtiyaga lang akong maghintay. Kaya ngayon na dumating na ang mga breaks, gagawin ko ang lahat para alagaan ito at ’di ko hahayaan na mawala.”
His indie movie, “Ligo Na U, Lapit Na Me,” will have a commercial run starting Aug. 17. Just like his film’s title, Edgar Allan is taking a shower of blessings even as fame is just around the corner—now that he’s being hailed as the new indie “prince.”
Hard Candy
This is a tough piece to write because it concerns my son, IC Mendoza. But I feel I have to take the cudgels for him, just as any mother would.
IC is bubbly by nature, so it’s very rare for him to come home to me crying. That’s why I was bothered—he was in tears as he told me about his unpleasant encounter with Candy Pangilinan in Reserve, a bar in Pasig.
He said he approached Candy and Aiko Melendez, just to make chika. He was shocked when Candy started lambasting and cursing him, saying, “I don’t respect or trust you. Kayo sa ‘Juicy’ at sa network niyo P.I. kayong lahat.”
It could have been the alcohol talking, but that’s no excuse. IC said Candy even went to the extent of saying, “I respected Direk GB, but now I don’t care who he’s fooling around with.”
She is clearly bitter about her breakup with TV/film director GB Sampedro. But why take it out on IC, just because they both happen to be working in the same network, TV5?
GB has moved on and is now happy with Daiana Menezes. The way she’s handling herself after the split, “Candy” seems to be a misnomer for the comedienne.
