Screenwriter scores Cinemalaya for ‘neglect’
“I was insulted when the Cinemalaya jury did not hand out the award for Best Screenplay in this year’s Director’s Showcase,” shares Jerry Gracio, scriptwriter of “Isda,” one of the category’s four entries: “I did not feel insulted because I didn’t win. I was insulted because I felt that Cinemalaya became the main initiator in neglecting screenwriters.

“What is the meaning of not giving a Best Screenplay award? Does it mean that all the screenplays in the Director’s Showcase were poor? If so, Cinemalaya should not have funded the projects.”

Igol Legaspi, photographer: “I don’t usually watch NBN-4 programs. Lately, however, I got interested in watching senate hearings regarding the government’s ‘witch-hunts’ for corrupt government entities. Subsequently, I was able to watch some of the network’s other shows. I realized that this is where people still observe broadcasting ethics.
“So, I remember one comment in this section about those working at NBN being trapped in limbo. Perhaps it’s partly true, because these people still know how to run a news and public affairs program—and that’s something we hardly see on commercial networks these days.
“Sadly, not many viewers watch NBN programs anymore. PNoy mentioned in his Sona about the plan to rehabilitate the network to make it more competitive, which should boost NBN’s prospects.”
Love life
Myrlit Molina, office worker: “In spite of my satisfaction over PNoy’s Sona, I can’t help but chafe at the sight of his sister, Kris Aquino, harping on TV about her love life—and ‘encouraging’ people to tease her about it.
“Also, she seems to be insensitive about embarrassing people, like when she squealed on a designer and said that he was talking about the wrong maker of an attire that was being modeled. Why does she get away with all this?”
