Filipino filmmaker Auraeus Solito’s “Busong” won the grand prize at the 8th All Roads Film Festival in Washington DC this week.

The prize, called Merata Mita Award, serves to “honor a legacy of outstanding storytelling,” according to Solito.

He wrote in his Facebook page: “Success is good when you don’t expect it at all… I’m proud to be [from] Palawan.”

According to its site, the fest “features stories and talents from vibrant and diverse cultures.” With this fest, National Geographic aims to “provide a platform for indigenous and underrepresented minority-culture storytellers… to showcase their works to promote knowledge, dialogue and understanding with a broader, global audience.” Bayani San Diego Jr.
