Harana King takes final bow

Farmer Celestino Aniel, one of the singers featured in Benito Bautista’s documentary “Harana,” passed away on Sunday after a lingering illness. He was 68. A farmer all his life, Aniel was “discovered” by US-based classical guitarist Florante Aguilar while searching for the roots of serenade music in the country. Aniel had performed in various concerts as a member of the “Harana Kings,” which included Felipe Alonzo and Romeo Bergunio. Said Bautista: “His music is his enduring contribution to our culture.” Funeral is on Sept. 25.Bayani San Diego Jr.
