FEATURED STORIES

Ali Shaheed Muhammad is the DJ/producer of A Tribe Called Quest, a group regarded as a pioneer of alternative hip hop – which veered away from gangsta, hardcore and party rap themes, choosing instead to experiment with clever wordplay and innovative sampling from rock, jazz, funk, soul, electronica and other genres.

Maseo (Vincent Mason) is a member of the hip hop trio De La Soul –which, together with the Jungle Brothers and A Tribe Called Quest, belonged to the Native Tongues Posse (1980s and ’90s hip hop artists known for their positive vibes, good-natured Afrocentric lyrics and imaginative music).

Shortkut

Shorkut is associated with the World Famous Beat Junkies, a crew of DJs specializing in “turntablism” or the art of manipulating sounds and creating music using phonograph turntables and a DJ mixer.

The show’s promoter, Heavy Boogie Productions, described what people can expect at the show: “The crux is to bring together the DJs, the dancers and the audience under one groove, united in their quest for the perfect beat.”

“Breathe and Stop” will also present 15 of Manila’s best dancers competing for the best individual performance/move, best teamwork/ethic, best crew, and best outfit of the night.

Doors open at 9 p.m. Tickets available at White Space or log on to [email protected].
