Street Smart
Joint project

King’s School Manila’s head teacher, Janet Brock, spoke at the weekly meeting of Rotary Club Makati Dasmariñas (RCMD) at Ascot Hotel last Wednesday. The club and school are offering a scholarship to an exceptional 9-year-old Filipino student every year for five years (visit kings.org.ph, or call 478-9859).
Principles
Ms Brock nurtures a teaching philosophy that puts a premium on leadership and development anchored in the principles of honesty and integrity.
She is inspired by Dorothy Law Holte’s poem, “A Life in Your Hands.” Excerpts:
If a child lives with criticism, he learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility, he learns to be shy.
If a child lives in tolerance, he learns to be patient.
If a child lives with encouragement, he learns confidence.
If a child lives with praise, he learns to appreciate.
If a child lives with approval, he learns to like himself.
If children live with acceptance and friendship, they learn to find love in the world.
