Theater group mourns Dolphy’s death

By

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Center of the International Theater Institute joins the country in mourning the death of Rodolfo Vera “Dolphy” Quizon.

“Dolphy has been brilliantly illuminating the life of our nation through six decades. His folksy humor, quick wit, devastating satire and extraordinary candor have provided refreshing insights about our nature as people,” Philippine Center of ITI said in a statement Wednesday through its President Cecile Guidote-Alvarez.

Dolphy had been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the ITI for his outstanding contribution to the arts and the entertainment industry.

“He leaves a legacy powerfully representing populist art with a wide gamut of roles interpreted with sensitivity and versatility that elicited laughter and tears. It will remain inscribed in the memory of a grateful nation. We mourn his loss and we extend our condolences and prayers to his family. He is now in the embrace of our Lord,” the statement said.
