Calls for Dolphy’s conferment as National Artist snowball

MANILA, Philippines—More groups are pushing for the immediate conferment of the National Artist Award to ailing Comedy King Rodolfo “Dolphy” Quizon.

Arlene Brosas, secretary general of Akap-Bata Partylist called on Malacañang Thursday to push for the speedy process of making Dolphy a National Artist.

She said the National Commission for Culture and the Arts should give the award to “true national artists” like Dolphy.

Meanwhile, singer-songwriter Anthony Castelo said he asked Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte to ask her father, Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, to file an urgent motion to approve the conferment of the award to Dolphy which was “already long overdue.”

Earlier, Senators Pia Cayetano and Gregorio Honasan called for the granting of the award to the revered icon of the Philippine entertainment industry.

i assume this the reason why the Commission does not give the award. it would be apt that one of the criteria for granting the recognition is morality, which dolphy does not posses for desecrating the sacredness of marriage and family.

The media in collaboration with Dolphy’s family are making this a circus of sorts. It is becoming a reality show that shamelessly broadcast the “death of our comedian”.

Here we go again. Why can’t we not wait for a calm and sober time before tackling this issue. Right now emotions are high and sympathy are pouring in but they are too fragile to be hastily awarded on someone at the doorsteps of death.

Huwag igawad ang national artist ke Dolphy! Masamang tao si Dolphy. Ginulangan niya ang partner niya na si Panchito. Winalanghiya din niya si Babalu. Walang ginawang mabuti si Pidol sa kapwa. Hoy, Inquirer, tigilaan niyo na ang front page news sa matandang ito. Kung gusto niyo, ipalibre niyo na lang ang obituary niya.
