Calls for Dolphy’s conferment as National Artist snowball

MANILA, Philippines—More groups are pushing for the immediate conferment of the National Artist Award to ailing Comedy King Rodolfo “Dolphy” Quizon.
Arlene Brosas, secretary general of Akap-Bata Partylist called on Malacañang Thursday to push for the speedy process of making Dolphy a National Artist.
She said the National Commission for Culture and the Arts should give the award to “true national artists” like Dolphy.
Meanwhile, singer-songwriter Anthony Castelo said he asked Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte to ask her father, Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, to file an urgent motion to approve the conferment of the award to Dolphy which was “already long overdue.”
Earlier, Senators Pia Cayetano and Gregorio Honasan called for the granting of the award to the revered icon of the Philippine entertainment industry.
