Filipino filmmaker Lav Diaz will be part of a three-man jury in the 66th edition of the Edinburgh International Film Festival, which runs in Scotland from June 20 to July 1. Chair of the jury (in the international competition section) is Hollywood actor Elliot Gould, with indie producer and former Karlovy Vary fest program director Julietta Sichel and Diaz as members. Diaz’s latest film, “Florentina Hubaldo, CTE,” is included in Edinburgh’s Philippine New Wave section, too. Bayani San Diego Jr.

“Filipino filmmaker joins Edinburgh jury” why not “Filmmaker Lav Diaz Joins Edinburgh jury” ?

Every time i read misplaced Filipino-pride comments or articles it makes me laugh and at the same time annoyed by the “IM PROUD TO BE” mentality.

It’s like “IT’S A BIG SURPRISE THAT A FILIPINO MADE IT THIS FAR!!!!”. more like

WOW!!! HOW DID THAT INDIO MADE IT TO THE LEVEL OF THE ILLUSTRADOS!!!

IT’S MORE INSECURITY IN THE PHILIPPINES!!!

Anywhere in the Internet these misplaced pride “I’M PROUD TO BE”
mentality is present, try Youtube, on clips of semi/quarter/pure
Filipino artists, actors, singers athletes who made it to the
international scene you can expect to see comments like “I’m proud to be
Filipino”, “her father is a Filipino”, “his lola is Filipina”, “shes a
    Filipino”.

My point is Filipinos are Talented and we should be proud to be Filipinos, but please

wag naman yung nagmumukha ka ng cheap na parang WHAT? A FILIPINO? HOW
DID THAT HAPPEN???. Pride with attitude naman, nagiging defining
attributes na ng Pinoy ang “IM PROUD TO BE”, pinag tatawanan na tayo.

Let’s stop this “Misplaced pride – IM PROUD TO BE” mentality.

    ex.

“Some scenes in Bourne Legacy were shot in palawan”.

    A. Been there, It’s in Luzon, PH, its a nice place,<- Pinoy Pride with attitude

B.. WOW!!!! THAT's PALAWAN, I'M PROUD TO BE FILIPINO <– tsk tsk tsk.

    Violent reactions are expected.
