Jessica Simpson gives birth to baby girl

LOS ANGELES—Singer and actress Jessica Simpson gave birth Tuesday to a bouncing baby girl, she announced on her website with her fiancé, former NFL football player Eric Johnson.

Simpson, who recently appeared naked and heavily pregnant a la Demi Moore on the cover of Elle, said she was delighted to welcome Maxwell Drew Johnson, who weighed in at a healthy 9 pounds 13-ounces.

“Eric and I are elated to announce the birth of our baby girl,” who measures 21.75 inches, the 31-year-old singer, actress and reality star later wrote. “This has been the greatest experience of our lives.”

The child is the first both for Simpson and the 32-year-old Johnson, a former football player. The couple began dating in 2010.

Simpson checked into a Los Angeles hospital to give birth with her mother, Tina, and her sister, Ashlee, along with the parents of her fiancé, the celebrity news website TMZ.com reported.
