Formidable lineup
Philippine Daily Inquirer
Rachelle Ann Go is at the peak of her power as a pop singer, and not just because she hits impossibly high notes in as many
different ways as she pleases – alternately with grace, with authority, at times with something approximating vengeance. It’s also because she has obviously taken meticulous care of her voice and honed her technique to a formidable sharpness, that even “Seasons of Love” (Feb. 13, Newport, Resorts World) costar
Basil Valdez made sure to point it out. And that’s the Basil Valdez, who has come back to the concert stage in a big way, thank heavens. The third headliner, the ever-dependable The CompanY, continues to surprise us with a dogged determination to raise the bar for the spectators and for themselves as well. Few groups would venture, like this group routinely does, into “experimental” territory, music-wise. Its every performance assures us, as an audience, that committed artists will continue to challenge us, even educate us, if necessary. The CompanY looks up to its fans, more than the other way around, and always illustrates its confidence in their capacity to appreciate diligently prepared numbers. We’re happy that we caught this show. Emmie G. Velarde
