Obama to give medals to Al Pacino, Amartya Sen

WASHINGTON – US President Barack Obama on Monday will award the national medals of arts and humanities to actor Al Pacino and Nobel Prize winner Amartya Sen of India, the White House announced.

Along with Al Pacino, the national medal of arts will be awarded to painter Will Barnett, poet Rita Dove and philanthropist Ruth Pulitzer among others.

Amartya Sen won his Nobel Prize for economics in 1998 for his studies of the roots of poverty. He will receive a national medal for humanities, the White House said.
