Maine Mendoza claims top spot of 100 Asian Sweethearts for 2018

Dubsmash Queen and “Eat Bulaga” dabarkad Maine Mendoza bagged the title of the Ultimate Asian Sweetheart for 2018, as voted by fans.
Mendoza claimed the top spot in the “100 Asian Sweethearts” for this year, released by entertainment website Starmometer on Thursday. The Dubsmash Queen bested 99 other celebrities from other countries incuding China, Thailand and South Korea.
Mendoza garnered 1,485,312 votes in the semi-finals and 757,430 votes in the final round. Fans voted through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the Starmometer website.
Other Filipino celebrities placed in the top 10, with the likes of Kathryn Bernardo (sixth place), Nadine Lustre (seventh) and Angel Locsin (eighth place).
Meanwhile, Thai actress Urassaya Sperbund placed second on the list, with 401,867 votes in the final polls. She is known for being Jane in the romantic comedy/family drama “Brother of the Year,” set to hit local theaters on Sept. 5.
The 23-year-old Mendoza rose to fame for being Yaya Dub, a non-speaking personal assistant to Wally Bayola’s Lola Nidora who could communicate only by lip-synching songs and phrases provided by the app Dubsmash. She then fell for Alden Richards, sparking a love team that would be a sensation even overseas. /ra
