Jodi Sta. Maria to son Thirdy, ‘future children’: ‘Live a life you can be proud of’

Actress Jodi Sta. Maria recently penned a heartfelt letter to her son, Panfilo “Thirdy” Sta. Maria Lacson and her “future children,” where she imparted important truths to them about life.
For Sta. Maria, seeing her son for the first time was the most beautiful thing she’s ever experienced, saying that what was once “ordinary and mundane” have become “brighter and more beautiful” since he came.
“You taught me about appreciating real beauty, subtle beauty and the beauty of simplicity. I pray and hope that you continue to be a stand up young man,” wrote Sta. Maria last Aug. 19. “I pray and hope that the lessons I share to you won’t be forgotten and have set your moral compass.”

The first truth Sta. Maria wrote in her letter was about being accepting of one’s self. “You are unique and you are beautiful. Don’t allow the world to dictate who you should or shouldn’t be.”
She, too, spoke of beauty, saying that it doesn’t come from “outward adornment but from the inner self.”
“A gentle and peaceful spirit is radiant and that shine can’t be dulled,” wrote Sta. Maria. “That’s what you look for; that’s what you work for.”
Despite being a glamorous fashionista herself, Sta. Maria shared in the third truth that the best OOTD (outfit of the day) is when “you’re clothed with dignity and strength.” She wrote that although clothes may make a man, it is character that never goes out of style.
“It’s about finding balance and harmony with your heart, mind and soul — the trinity of our humanity,” Sta. Maria said about the fourth truth. “Have a compassionate heart, a positive mind and a humble soul.”
“Live your life, anak. Live a life that you can be proud of. Be a beacon of light for those who are looking for it. I will always be here for you.”
Thirdy is Sta. Maria’s son with ex-husband Panfilo Lacson Jr. Despite their separation, however, Sta. Maria remains close with Lacson, his partner actress Iwa Moto and their daughter Eve, Thirdy’s half-sister. JB
