Winwyn Marquez shares dad’s ‘silly’ reason why she has many siblings

Their family is not exactly of the conventional kind, nevertheless, that of veteran comedian Joey Marquez and daughter Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 Teresita “Winwyn” Marquez is full of love for one another despite some complicated histories.
When the former Paranaque City mayor’s marriage to actress/politician ex-wife Alma Moreno was officially declared null and void in 2004, full custody of their four children Winwyn, Yeoj, VJ and MM were awarded to the actress.
Nonetheless, he was never deprived of time to spend with his children and they were able to have the best of both worlds. On the flipside, it caused slight confusion to the kids as equal footing between their parents eventually made them nomads.
“Parang dati NPA kami eh, no permanent address talaga kasi gusto namin makasama si mama gusto namin makasama si daddy. Both parties naman hindi kami pinigilan ‘pag sinabi namin I wanna see our dad papayagan naman kami,” Winwyn shared during her Friday guesting on Kapamilya daily morning talkshow “Magandang Buhay” together with Joey.
Even before he married Moreno, Joey already had children from previous relationships. As his kids grew up, naturally, they asked him why they were quite big in number. Winwyn has a funny memory of his dad’s simple but all-encompassing answer.
“Syempre kayong magkakapatid nagtitinginan dami namin. So may time na me and my sister Zia, sabe ko daddy bakit ang dami namin, saka minsan magkakalapit pa ‘yung birthday, ang sagot niya lang, ‘it’s a miracle’ tapos deadma na siya,” she said.
All in all, Joey had 15 children.
“‘Uy yang 15 na yun lahat kami magka-close lahat kami talagang nag-o-open up sa isa’t-isa, kumbaga sa’min kung anong nangyare sa mom nila at kay daddy out na kami dun hindi na namin papakialaman yun basta kami magkakasundo, masaya, nagtutulungan ‘pag kailangan magtulungan,” she said.
It was so because Joey has injected in them from the very beginning that there are no halfs in siblings and that they should love one another as equals. /jpv
