Big show marks Charlie Puth’s 3rd Manila visit

If we were to measure success by the size of venues an artist performs in, then we can safely say that Charlie Puth has already hit the big-time.
In his first visit to Manila in 2015, he did a mall show. In 2016, he headlined a concert at the Kia Theatre. This year, the pop star will take the stage at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Nov. 6.
Charlie’s one-night show— mounted by MMI Live—is part of the 26-year-old singer-songwriter’s upcoming world tour, “Voicenotes,” which kicks off this month in support of his second studio album of the same title. Tickets go on sale tomorrow (call 4702222).
“Voicenotes” showcases Charlie’s growth as a composer and lyricist.
A catchy fusion of pop, 1980s and 1990s R&B, and a little jazz, “Voicenotes” had Charlie touching on a various themes and topics, like his struggle with building a normal relationship amid his newfound success.
“I wanted it to be a story of my travel from the East Coast to the West Coast, and how my growing fame has affected my mind in good and bad ways,” said Charlie, who tackled the issue in the songs, “Attention,” “How Long” and “Done for Me.”
He likewise talked about his social anxiety, as in “The Way I Am.” “I thought I was supposed to go to all these parties and be this type of person, so I have always shoved my anxiety under the carpet because I didn’t think anyone cared to hear about it,” the Grammy-nominated artist related.
The heartthrob rose to prominence after his breakout hit, “See You Again,” stayed for 12 weeks at the No. 1 spot of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.—ALLAN POLICARPIO
