‘Are You Human?’ tops weekly Korean TV charts upon debut

Housing famous titles like “Descendants of the Sun”, “Fight for My Way” and “Boys Over Flowers”, KBS2 TV’s latest drama “Are You Human?” topped weekly TV charts in Korea, Korea Herald reports.
Charts that were released on Tuesday showed that the high-budget drama recorded a score of 272.1 on the weekly Content Power Index (CPI) for June 4 to 10. The drama premiered on June 4 on local television in South Korea but can also be readily viewed on Viu.
The series focuses on Nam Sin (played by Seo Kang-joon), a third-generation chaebol (a large business conglomerate) heir who falls into a coma after an accident. Grief-stricken, his mother creates a robot duplicate of him named Nam Sin III.
Producer Cha Young-hoon said that the series depicts power struggles within a chaebol family and the heights of motherly love.
The producer also commends Seo Kang-joon on his performance for the double role.
“I am very satisfied with his acting. I told him that he showed his best. If the drama doesn’t take off, it will be all my fault,” Cha said.
Meanwhile, the second spot was taken by tvN’s romantic comedy entitled “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim”, which received a CPI rating of 260. The Korean drama stars “Fight For my Way” lead actor Park Seo-joon and is also available on Viu.
“What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim” is based on the popular novel by Jang Kyung-yoon, which also holds the same name. The online novel was also recreated into a “webtoon”, or online comic strips as they are known in South Korea. The novel garnered 50 million views while the webtoon was viewed over 200 million times.
