Kristen Wiig picks ‘Wonder Woman 1984,’ Apple series seeks new star

After scheduling conflicts meant a busy Kristen Wiig had to choose between “Wonder Woman 2” and a comedy show for Apple TV, the “Despicable Me” actress is staying with 2019’s superhero movie.
With Kristen Wiig installed as supervillain Cheetah in Patty Jenkins’ November 2019 action movie “Wonder Woman 1984” and as the star of a ten-episode comedy series for Apple, something had to give.
Production schedules overlapped and eventually Wiig had to choose between the two projects—with the “Wonder Woman” sequel coming out the winner.
Based on “You Think It, I’ll Say It,” April 2018’s well-received short story collection from Curtis Sittenfeld, the show was one of three ordered from Reese Witherspoon’s production company Hello Sunshine, along with Jennifer Aniston’s fictional behind-the-scenes chat show drama and Octavia Spencer’s investigation thriller “Are You Sleeping.”
Apple is still enthusiastic about the project, per Deadline, while The Wrap reports the show’s producers are “considering their options, including finding a new lead actress.”
As well as “Wonder Woman 2,” the industrious Wiig is involved with a clutch of other projects.
Those include the remake of award-winning German dramatic comedy “Toni Erdmann” and two March 2019 movies in animated adventure “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” and Richard Linklater’s comedy drama “Where’d You Go, Bernadette.”
Then there’s a musical comedy with Will Ferrell called “Everything’s Coming Up Profits,” and another comedy in “Barb and Star go to Vista Del Mar,” which she co-wrote and co-stars in with fellow “Bridesmaids” alumnus Annie Mumolo. MKH
