Moira Dela Torre ‘almost cried’ when a basher told her she should die

Personalities and celebrities are no strangers to criticism, both constructive and otherwise, as they get their fair share of bashers every now and then on and off social media. Although some may think the vitriol is expected, as hiding behind a screen allows one the leeway to spread hate without accountability, it seems contemptible if not disheartening just how low some bashers would go with their spite.
Some may say Moira Dela Torre’s ascent to fame was a linear trajectory that first gathered momentum when she joined “The Voice” back in 2013. Although she was eliminated early on, she continued to make her mark when her song “Malaya” for director Irene Villamor’s “Camp Sawi” back in 2016 became popular, making her a familiar name in the music industry.
But just as there are euphoric highs in fame, so are there pitfalls, such as being subjected to constant scrutiny under the spotlight.
Dela Torre took to her Instagram yesterday to share to her followers that she almost cried when someone told her she should die and called her a has-been. She also shared that she realized only she could give her bashers the power to hurt her.
“Someone messaged me ‘ang daming mas magaling sa’yo, mamatay ka na laos ka na’ and [to be honest] I wasn’t ready for it and almost cried until I realized… comparison, hate, bashers only have power when I give them power,” wrote Dela Torre.

Dela Torre also admitted that there are many other artists who are more talented than she, but this fact alone makes her grateful.
“I know very well that there are so many other people who are IMMENSELY more talented and more deserving than I am, but that only makes me even more grateful to be given what I have now,” continued Dela Torre.
Dela Torre added that she wants to be the kind of person who “lifts others up” in her online platform. “Posting this [because] I know that in my time on this platform, I want to be someone who lifts others up, who can show people that we can shine without pulling others down…”
“We could all do our part in celebrating others, knowing that God has wonderful plans for each one and that He created a world big enough for all of us.” /ra
