WATCH: Morissette Amon, Jessica Sanchez show off power vocals in duet
“American Idol” runner-up Jessica Sanchez and singer Morissette Amon stunned audiences with their power vocals in a rendition of Demi Lovato’s “Stone Cold”.
Like Sanchez, 21-year-old Amon got her break from singing competitions, as with her participation in “The Voice of the Philippines”.
The Filipino-Mexican, 22, visited Manila to perform in Jake Zyrus’ concert last May 25. During her stay, she also guested in the variety show “ASAP” where she sang with Amon.
Both divas showcased their vocal range through the song; taking on low, solemn notes, all the way to belting out the more emotionally charged parts of the song.
Though it was a duet, netizens couldn’t help compare the two with their similar singing styles.
Twitter netizen @NoTruthWasted thought Sanchez was more “effortless”: “The difference between singing to EXPRESS from singing to IMPRESS. Singing from the soul effortlessly. Todo birit si ateng mong MA while Jessica Sanchez tinayuan lang xa (Morissette was full on belting while Jessica Sanchez just stood there). Soul singing is so OBVIOUS.”

“Morissette has a wide range of vocals pero she tends to overdo it eh, the focus of attention is on her kasi (because) that’s what she commands pero waley impact ng song (but the song has no impact). That’s why di ko talaga sya bet kumanta (I don’t like how she sings) because she lacks emotions when she sings. Birit (belting) just does not do it for me,” said one @SharonStone10.

Undoubtedly, the two singers have deep respect for one another. At one point, Amon raised her arms in praise of Sanchez’ intense energy.
