Michelle Madrigal reveals Hashimoto’s disease diagnosis

Michelle Madrigal got raw and real as she revealed to fans she’s been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease.
The actress and mother of one admitted in an Instagram post yesterday that she recently discovered she had the ailment. She said she joins millions of other women who suffer from it.
Madrigal first explained what her condition was about. She wrote: “[I]t is an autoimmune disorder that can cause hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid.”
The actress went on: “It means that my immune system makes antibodies that attack the thyroid gland. The thyroid becomes damaged and can’t make enough thyroid hormones.”
Aside from having Hashimoto’s, Madrigal said she developed goiter, also known as enlarged thyroid.

She is trying to be positive despite her situation. “I am lucky that I am not prescribed with any medications yet..,” Madrigal said. “And [to be honest], I would rather heal myself in a holistic way.”
One thing Madrigal considered is a change of lifestyle, particularly her diet. She said she started doing research on AIP diet and paleo diet—both eliminating foods that may cause inflammation in the gut and eating nutrient-rich foods. Madrigal added she also cut sugar and gluten from her diet.
“I know healing my gut is just the first step, but dealing with daily stress and emotional flare ups is also another thing,” the actress admitted. “I really am on a huge “transition phase” of my life this year. So here’s to healing naturally and being healthy from the inside out!”
Followers of Madrigal expressed their support through the comments section. @jeynerry told the actress to “don’t lose hope” as she shares the same condition as hers.

And @cherry_vonk shared that it has been four years since she was first diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Because of this, people comment that she’s fat but are unaware that she suffers from the disease. She also commended Madrigal for being “a brave one.”
