Remember Kevin McCallister from “Home Alone”? The actor who played him admitted he hasn’t seen the Christmas movie in a long time, and he refuses to do the iconic expression in one of its scenes when people ask him to.

Macaulay Culkin, in his first appearance at “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” which aired Monday, April 23, said that oftentimes, he does not watch his own films.

Culkin cited an instance when he gave a commentary for the 15th anniversary of the movie. He said, “I realize I hadn’t seen the movie in like 15 years, whereas Chris Columbus (the director), he watched it the night before.”

“I’ve had people sit down and would want to watch it with me, which is like both flattering and creepy,” the 37-year-old actor joked. “When I’m watching, I’m remembering that day on set like how I was… you know… hiding my Pepsi behind the couch or something like that. I can’t watch it the same way other people can.”

Does he at least watch it when the holidays kick in? “No, not really,” he answered.

Culkin added that he doesn’t go out on Christmastime, unlike his character. “I definitely don’t, it’s my season. Yes, it’s Macaulay season. I try to go [out] less and less that time of year.”

Still, some people love his character so much that they at times ask him to do the face he made in the movie. “I’ve already been there, done that,” he said and joked in a low voice, “I’m 37 now okay? Okay, mom?”

Culkin also spoke with DeGeneres about the time when he retired from acting around the age of 14.

“I was tired of it, to be honest. I did like what? 14 movies in six years or something like that,” he said. Culkin added that he “lived the dream” when he attended high school like a normal kid. He said of the experience, “It was great to be around people my own age for once.”

“Home Alone” was the movie that catapulted Culkin to superstardom at the tender age of ten. It was a commercial success when it was released in 1990, and is considered one of the highest-grossing and much-loved comedy films of all time. JB
