Director James Cameron stated his desire to create four more “Avatar” movies and make a five-film epic similar to “The Godfather”.

Cameron said the project has been green-lit but whether the fourth and fifth film in the “Avatar” saga will be made depends on the performance of the second and third movies, as reported by Variety.

“We know the story through the end of 5, where it’s all going, but there’s no activity on 4 and 5 right now other than we’ve done most of the design work,” said Cameron.

Cameron is also working on a new “Terminator” movie. He said it will have a new “nuanced perspective” in consideration for the growth of technology, since the first movie came out in 1982.

“That [Terminator 1982] was just a classic kind of ‘technology bad, smart computers bad’ kind of thing. It’s got to be a much more nuanced perspective now, I think. And hopefully we’ll show that. So ‘smart computers bad, but…’ is the new motif,” he said in the report.

The director started to consider a five-part “Avatar” epic when he thought of the franchise as a family drama like “The Godfather”.

So far, the progress on the second and third films have reached the 100th day of production. The two movies are being produced simultaneously and the characters’ narratives are a continuation from the first “Avatar” film.

Apart from the known franchises, Cameron is also putting together a movie adaptation of a Japanese manga comic called “Battle Angel Alita”. Cameron’s film has the title “Alita: Battle Angel” and has one trailer released so far. Alfred Bayle/JB
