Just when broadcast journalist Atom Araullo says his journeys in his upcoming crowd-sourced travel show “Adventure Your Way” lay entirely on the hands of his online friends, he means it boldly.
The production team and Atom himself say that what separates their program from the rest of the other travel shows that have graced television is that even the cast and crew don’t know what happens next.
As the main navigator of the show, Atom’s brave, bold and fearless personality makes him the perfect fit to carry such spontaneous adventures.
“It’s very unscripted, as you know Atom, I think he’s daring enough that’s why we are challenging him, actually you guys are challenging him,” AXN Network Philippines Sr. Manager for Programming and Marketing Ana Pulido said during the “Adventure Your Way” grand press launch last Feb 1.
And among the things the team has discovered so far gave them a jaw-dropping surprise.
“Personally what stood out for me, I don’t know if you guys know this because I didn’t know, meron pala tayong blue soil dito. I’m not even telling you where it is, watch the show,” Pulido teased.
The entertainment press also gave the same awed and shocked reaction as the team did the first time they learned about the blue soil. This and many other finds are waiting to be discovered.
Giving the press a taste of Atom’s spontaneity is a test he earlier did, the Spicy Noodle Challenge. Atom had to eat spicy noodles and act out the adventure posted under the bowls. Only when a netizen answers right does he get a chance to drink and save his tongue from burning.
As to the possibility of low to no engagement, the team does not worry at all. The show’s unique concept and approach, coupled with Atom’s enormous following, are enough factors to draw the audience in.
“The concept itself is quite engaging, I’m surprised nobody has done it before, in terms of engagement we’ve been lucky naman,” said Atom.
The netizens’ suggestion is the power of the show. As more and more tips come in, votes are tallied and whichever adventure goal outnumbers the others wins.
But what if Atom does not feel like doing it?
“I don’t have a choice, I’ll get sued [he jokes]. That’s part of it, that’s the concept, I’m ready to do both, I have a preference but if they say this is what won then I have no choice, it ends up fun anyway. So far, the things I want to do actually win,” he said.
“Adventure Your Way” premieres on AXN on February 8 at 8:30 pm. On its first episode, Atom explores the beautiful island of Cebu. /jpv
