How KC Montero’s chilly proposal still got a ‘yes’

He had the ring and the love of his life, but KC Montero had a minor concern: how to surprise now-fiancee Stephanie Dods while landing a picture-perfect moment.
He revealed to the Philippine Entertainment Portal in an exclusive interview that Dods, a Fil-Kiwi model and beauty queen, knew that he had the ring with him and it was just a matter of time before he popped the question.
Dods picked the ring herself after he had trouble finding “the right kind of center stone and the kind of cut.”
“First, she wanted a pear [cut], and then she wanted an oval, so it screwed me up,” he said.
And while she was able to choose her dream sparkler, Montero didn’t let her catch sight of it. “I didn’t show her how much it cost, I didn’t show her the ring until I proposed.”
During their vacation in California to be with the Montero family on December, the groom-to-be hatched his plan.
“‘We’re gonna take Instagram pictures on the top of this mountain,’” the TV host recalled telling his brother Troy.
However, the plan was foiled when Dods preferred a trip to the supermarket, and he didn’t want to let his plan slip.
The next day — Christmas Day — he drove her to a spot on the mountains in negative degree weather.

On the way, she asked where they were going. “I said, ‘There’s this little area I know. We can get out and take our pictures,’” he recalled.
“And she goes, ‘Do you just wanna propose to me in the car?’”
Montero’s alibi: “Shh! That’s not what we’re doing here! Instagram is what I’m doing here!”
Once they were on the mountain, this time the wind refused to cooperate with them as their cameras kept getting knocked down from the tree.
He narrated that she noticed he was having difficulty with the GoPro camera and suggested they could go elsewhere. “And I was, like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’”
He then told her, “Look! Look over there, it’s a glacier,” causing her to turn around. He was on one knee when she looked back.

But while the view was scenic, the biting cold took away from his romantic speech.
His proposal was short and simple. “I have a lot to say, but I forgot. It’s really cold. Will you marry me?”
He noticed she was sniffling and asked, “Is that a yes?”
