Film director Paul Soriano dished on talk show “Tonight with Boy Abunda” about what he’s like as a family man.

Married to actress Toni Gonzaga and dad to one-year-old Seve, Soriano admitted that he felt he is a better father than a husband.

“I think for me, father. Just because it comes naturally. I think [as a] husband, I have to work at it,” he said.

“My dad and my mom say this, ‘the marriage will always and forever be a work in progress.’”

“Of course, I’m not gonna be the perfect father, but for me, I want to be that perfect father every day,” he continued. “And I know I’ll fail, but I want to… Parang to be a father is natural.”

He shared that their lives changed since Seve entered the picture: Gonzaga and their one-year-old have been sleeping on a sofa while he sleeps on the couple’s bed.

But he and Toni still make time for one another and talk when Seve is asleep. “Most of it happens in the bathroom, just like talking there… our little quiet space.”

“We know each other well enough to feel anything out. If there is anything we try to do a lot is we communicate,” he explained.

On resolving conflict, he is more likely to bring up a problem because “Celestine is more of the quiet type.”

“I know when something’s bothering her, so I just have to say, ‘What’s up?’ And then, she’ll tell me, ‘Nothing.’”

“So, I have to wait.”

A sensitive topic has been rumors of infidelity on his part, which Gonzaga addressed in August 2017.

This year, Soriano was linked to actress Erich Gonzales whom he worked with on the set of “Siargao”. The movie will premiere in the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival.

The “Last Night” actress said her husband had warned her about the circulating gossip and that he didn’t want to react to false allegations.

He said despite these rumors, he and Toni have felt secure with one another. “It is there, even the way I feel about Toni is very secure, the trust is there.  It’s never been broken.”

He also emphasized that having a child has been a positive experience. “Seve has made the marriage much more of a blessing. There’s just so much love right now and Seve is at the center of all of that.”
