Raymund Ribay Gutierrez’s “Imago” won the Night Award at the 15th International Festival Signs of the Night (Signes de Nuit), held recently in Paris, France.

According to the fest’s website, Gutierrez’s short film presents “the conflict of the main character” in “an ambiguous and mysterious way.”

The jurors commended the film’s “subtlety,” as well. The jury explained: “The moments where we follow the protagonist through the streets of Manila (at night) are marked by a high degree of tension. She earns money in an unconventional way, by putting herself at risk. The film’s visual language makes the images stay in the viewer’s mind for a long time.”

“It feels great as a storyteller that our film is still getting recognized long after its release last year,” Gutierrez told the Inquirer.—BAYANI SAN DIEGO JR.
