He also hasn’t met his grandson Alas Joaquin, even when they visit his home.

Robin insists on marriage

Padilla shared that the tension between Abrenica, 27, and her father is because the latter wants them to get married.

However, she has a realistic outlook on it based on personal experience.

I came from a broken family… so I know the reality of marriage, hindi lang siya papel, hindi lang siya singsing na isinuot mo, na sinabi mo na kasal na kami (It’s not just a piece of paper, a ring that you put on and that says you’re married).”

Her parents divorced in 2007, and in 2010 Robin married TV host Mariel Rodriguez.

He also has a child with Leah Orosa from outside of his marriages.

Sa totoo lang, kapag ikakasal na ako, ayoko may divorce, kaya sobrang nag-iingat ako. At alam kong kaming dalawa ni AJ (Aljur), marami pa kaming kailangang ayusin. (To be honest, when I get married, I don’t want to get divorced which is why I’m being careful. I know AJ and I have a lot to fix).

At ayoko lang yung napilit kami para lang ma-please yung mga tao or, I’m sorry, para maging okay si Papa (I don’t want to force us into marriage just to please people or my father),” she explained.

She added, “Pero kaya kong tiisin yun. Kasi alam ko sa sarili ko na hindi pa kami handa, hindi pa talaga (But I can handle it. I know myself and I know we’re not yet ready).”

As for their relationship, Padilla shared that her dad still checks on her and was present when his daughter was in labor.

Palagi naman niya ako kinakamusta kahit hindi pa lumalabas si Alas. ‘Kamusta, anak? Nahirapan ka ba? Kumakain ka ba?’ Ganyan (He always asks how I’m doing even when Alas wasn’t born yet. He asks, ‘How are you? Are you having a hard time? Have you eaten?’”).

‘We made a mistake’

The “Encantadia” actress admitted that she and Abrenica had been irresponsible in their younger years.

The two had been linked to each other since 2011, when she was 18 and Abrenica was 21. They then broke up in 2014 and reunited in 2016.

According to Abrenica, they got engaged in November 2016 while vacationing in Japan and had been living together before Padilla was pregnant.

She said she felt it was a mistake to be open about their relationship. “Sa pag-aartista, love life mo, ilabas mo, it’s interesting, gusto ng mga tao ‘yan (In being an actor, you expose your love life because it’s interesting to people).”

“Then, after nung nag-mature na ako, sabi ko, ‘Mali ata ako dun’ (When I matured, I realized, ‘I might have been wrong’).” It wasn’t a responsible decision,” she said.

Finding purpose

On her career getting derailed, Padilla said she has found purpose from the experience.

While she was removed from “Encantadia,” she said, “Sobrang malaking pagbabago na sa akin na sobrang sarap na ngayon (Big changes have happened to me that feels so good).”
