WATCH: Coldplay dedicates new song ‘Houston #1’ for Hurricane Harvey victims

British band Coldplay has always had the innate ability to move people with its music.

With its tour stop in Houston, Texas, canceled last week due to the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey, the band decided to compose the song “Houston #1” dedicated to the victims of the typhoon.

Performing last Monday (Tuesday in Manila) at the Hard Rock Museum in Miami, Florida, lead singer Chris Martin let it be known that their hearts and minds were with those suffering, by performing a unique song.

“This is because we all grew up loving country music, and of course that’s kind of what we think of when we go to Texas,” Martin told the crowsd. “So, if you’ll bear with us, this is a new song and we’ll never play this again. It’s a once off and it’s called ‘Houston.’ We’re gonna sing it in Miami for everybody here, and we’re gonna send it over there to everyone who missed the show.”

Although unfamiliar with the lyrics of the new song, the crowd expressed its support by clapping throughout the duration of the emotional performance.

The audience cheered the loudest when Martin belted out: “From Miami we’re sending our love to Houston.”

Meanwhile, several Hollywood celebrities have pledged financial aid through various relief funds for the victims. /ra
