Jona Soquite, a 13-year-old native of Davao City, became the first ever grand champion of “The Voice Teens” on Sunday night.

Soquite, who belonged to the team of coach Sarah Geronimo, got 44.78 percent of total viewers’ votes cast via text and various online sites.

As grand champion, Soquite gets a house and lot, P1 million in cash, a recording and management contract, and a business package.

Following her on second spot was Isabella Vinzon of Mexico, Pampanga, for getting 22.42 percent of the votes; Mica Becerro of Surigao del Sur on third for getting 17.79 percent; and Jeremy Glinoga from Lipa City on fourth for getting 15.01 percent.

Vinzon belonged to the team of coach Bamboo Mañalac, Becerro to the team of coach Lea Salonga, and Glinoga to the team of coach Sharon Cuneta.

Soquite sang “I Believe I Can Fly,” a song composed and performed by R. Kelly.

Vinzon sang “Rise Up,” which was originally performed by Andra Day, who composed the song with Jennifer Decilveo.

Becerro sang “Time to Say Goodbye,” which was composed by Francesco Santori, with original Italian lyrics by Lucio Quarantotto and English lyrics by Frank Peterson. It was made popular by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman.

Glinoga did the only Filipino song of the night – “Dahil Mahal na Mahal Kita,” which was composed by Larry Hermoso and performed by Roselle Nava. /atm
