I had a blast at the birthday get-together of my cool friend, Robert Seña, at The Grey Market in Cubao Expo. It’s a curio shop that sells rare vintage finds. Robert’s asalto was devoid of anything show biz.

It was just an impromptu celebration with the acclaimed thespian’s fabulous wifey, Isay Alvarez, their theater colleagues Bo Cerrudo, Aicelle Santos, Cacai Bautista, Myke Salomon and a few close friends. The joint was turned into a miniclub when we all started dancing to ’80s disco hits.

I fondly call Robert the “Robert Downey Jr. and Kevin Kline of the Philippines,” which always makes him cringe. At 53, the former “Miss Saigon” star still knows how to have fun.

Robert will keep living it up as he lets his hair down and goes “bottoms up.”

Here’s my chat with Robert:

What is your fondest “Miss Saigon” memory? It was during my stint when I learned to live on my own.

What advice do you give aspiring theater actors? Love your craft like it was your cell phone (laughs). Kidding aside, disappointment will always be a part of your journey. Deal with it. If you can’t take it, perhaps it’s time to find another job.

What changes do you wish to see in the theater industry? I want to see more original shows and sponsors. More theaters with the right specifications for smaller productions. And the Metropolitan Theater to be refurbished and start accommodating productions.

How have you and Isay kept your marriage intact? It’s the commitment we stick to, no matter what happens. The good side of my wife is always my motivation.

What are some of your realizations, now that you’re 53? I realized that there’s a child in me who just wants to relish the simple joys in life.
