‘Sunday Beauty Queen’ triumphs in Amsterdam

Baby Ruth Villarama’s “Sunday Beauty Queen” bagged the  Audience Choice Award for Best Documentary at the 10th CinemAsia film festival in the Netherlands.

“It’s a big deal for us because the lineup included films shown in Cannes, Berlin and Venice,” producer Chuck Gutierrez told the Inquirer.

The docu, which follows Filipino domestic helpers in Hong Kong, won best picture at the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

“I’m grateful that an MMFF entry can win the hearts of the Dutch as much as it did back home,” Villarama said. “This proves there’s an audience for docus.” —BAYANI SAN DIEGO JR.
