Rufa Mae Quinto and I fondly call each other “Alta Sister.” I can’t be any happier for her now that she’s a mommy, because her journey to where she blissfully is now wasn’t easy. She spent more than half of her life being the breadwinner of her clan.

Pchi (Rufa Mae’s nickname) has survived many love battles. But through it all, she never lost her joie de vivre, which she spreads around so well. Finally, her “happily ever after” has come as Mrs. Trevor Magallanes—and as the proud mommy of Alexandria Athena.

Here’s my chat with Pchi:

FEATURED STORIES

What scares you about motherhood? I tend to get paranoid… [about not] eating right or doing enough for my baby. But I pray to drive away all my fears as a first-time mom.

What excites you about motherhood? Watching Athena grow. It’s a thrill to know that her life depends on me, like she can’t survive without my breast milk. I look forward to nurturing her throughout all the stages of her growth.

How do you balance being a mom and wife? It’s like I have two babies, Trev and Athena. When Athena is asleep, Trev and I share quality time. When our baby is awake, we give her our full attention. Trev is very supportive, so shuttling between motherhood and being a wife isn’t such a tough balancing act.

Would you allow Athena to join show biz someday? I will leave it up to her to decide, but why not? Show biz has been my life, and it would be great for her to experience it, too.

What lesson from your mom would you pass to Athena? My mom lets me be myself. She never pressured me to do things I didn’t want to do. So, I’d also like to be that way with my daughter.

How do you intend to reinvent yourself, eventually? That’s the farthest thing from my mind right now because my focus is on my baby. At this point, I don’t think there’s anything else I need to prove. Whether I reinvent myself or not, I’d like to believe that my loyal fans would still be around.

When Athena is old enough, what advice would you give her about love and men? Love is always a risk worth taking. Falling for bad guys makes us appreciate when a good guy finally comes along.

‘Bagets’ reunion

Some of the cast members of the iconic 1980s teen movie, “Bagets,” had a reunion of sorts recently. Yayo Aguila, Eula Valdes, Cheska Iñigo, Ramon Christopher and Herbert Bautista enjoyed reminiscing about the good old days.

Viva Films ought to come up with a remake of “Bagets,” with the original cast portraying parents this time around. It would be great if the film’s most popular star, Aga Muhlach, and his gorgeous twins, Atasha and Andres, take part in the remake.

Since Herbert’s son, Harvey, has also joined the biz, and Ramon Christopher’s daughter, Janine Gutierrez, is making waves, they would be a welcome addition to the movie, too. What could be cooler than the Bagets of the ’80s joining forces with today’s dynamic millennials?
