The latest trailer for Hollywood’s adaptation of “Ghost in the Shell” gives the audience an idea of the movie’s plot through a few choice words spoken in the clip.

The first clue is the mention of the name “Mira” when addressing Scarlett Johansson’s character, also referred to as The Major. Second is a hint as to how the Major came to be in her fully cybernetic body and what she plans to do with it when she says, “They took my life, I’ll take my revenge.”

It would appear that a revenge route can be expected in the movie and that might not sit well with some fans. In the original series, fans would agree that “Major” Motoko Kusanagi (the protagonist) was not a vengeful character, and is just one who wants to do the job. However, there is still the delivery of the storyline left to consider, and with it, some possible twists.

Early in its production, the live-action “Ghost in the Shell” adaptation received some negative feedback for casting Scarlett Johansson in the lead role. Some fans felt this to be a great detachment from the source material, manga “Ghost in the Shell” by Masamune Shirow, which is set in Japan, and where it is assumed that Motoko is of Japanese descent.

Either way, all doubts and questions will either be confirmed or put to rest when “Ghost in the Shell” premieres on March 31. JB
