Billboard to launch in PH, vows support for Filipino artists
Billboard, known for its global music charts, is set to be officially launched in the Philippines on Thursday, vowing support for the local musical industry and its artists.
In a statement, Billboard head in Asia Jonathan Serbin described the Philippines an “incredible exciting music market,” adding that they are “thrilled” to connect with music enthusiasts in the country.
Billboard said local music content will be given emphasis alongside its international background “by striking a balance for both.” It will feature pop artist Sarah Geronimo on its maiden month.
“As a local counterpart, BillboardPH will feature news from the international scene. However, our mandate is clear: to support Filipino artists from all parts of the country, and help elevate them to the world stage,” Billboard said in a statement.
“BillboardPH’s charts will be formulated with advanced algorithms used worldwide with data sources approved by Billboard US. Not only will this depict a clearer picture of the current state of the music industry; it may also allow potential sponsors to assess at a glance which artists might fit their campaigns, with BillboardPH serving as the conduit,” it added.
Aside from the Philippines, Billboard is also present in two Asian countries, namely Japan and Thailand. YG
