As an artist fueled by reinvention, Gary Valenciano is constantly on the lookout for new ways to reinvigorate not only his music, but also his mode of interacting with fans.

So, while some of his contemporaries are still wary of utilizing social media and other online platforms, the 51-year-old star readily embraces them.

When  Facebook Live was recently introduced, a new feature that allows users to broadcast video content in real time, Gary was quick to see its potential. He now does what he calls “Chat Choose Day,” where he talks about sundry topics, answers questions, and even holds impromptu singing sessions.

“I love it! Concerts and gigs are where singers like me get to truly engage with our fans. But, these days, unless you’re someone like Sarah Geronimo, that doesn’t happen very often. There’s so much I want to talk about and ideas I want to share with my supporters,” he told the Inquirer in a recent interview.

Gary said “Chat Choose Day”  allows people to see what he’s like without the spotlight.

“It’s very intimate. At times, I sing without even warming up, and I go flat, sharp—which is OK. They get to see that I’m human, as well; that striving for excellence doesn’t necessarily mean being perfect,” he pointed out, adding that he naturally gravitates toward all things new—technology, film, music, and now, even the artists he chooses to collaborate with.

On July 15 and 16 at the Kia Theatre, the seasoned singer-songwriter will remount “Gary V Presents …” which features a roster of new talents and talent tilt alumni.

They include Lara Maigue, Janice Javier, Mitoy Yonting, Kiana Valenciano, Abby Asistio, Allan Silonga, Timmy Pavino, RJ dela Fuente, Bullet Dumas, Katrina Velarde, Carla Guevara-Laforteza and Jimmy Marquez.

“We have lots of great singers, but usually they’re seen in a competition setting. In this show, they get to  express themselves as artists,” related Gary, who also has an ongoing exhibit of his memorabilia—old photos, costumes, concert posters, records—at the Gateway Mall’s activity center.

“I handpicked these artists, who I think deserve a first or second listen,” he said.
