It’s been days since we interviewed award-winning actor Baron Geisler at ShowbizLIVE on his ring fight with indie actor Kiko Matos but I still can’t get over the surprise he pulled out on me.

Why? He “proposed” to me during the show and I still find it hilariously romantic when I look back on my sudden “engagement.”  It still makes me smile and sends shivers (kilig) to my bones.

Here’s how it happened.

FEATURED STORIES

Accompanied by his brother, two-time Olympian Donnie Geisler, Baron arrived at the interview venue with his usual bad-boy swag and dark shades and gamely greeted all his eager fans waiting for him for the June 29 guesting. He waved at me outside the radio booth; I smiled back at him. Nothing unusual there.

Everything was going as planned with the interview until Baron tweaked the program a little. When “Friendship” (my co-host Ervin Santiago and I call each other such during the show) asked Baron about his brother’s stint at Pinoy Big Brother (PBB), Baron quickly told us it was where he met his future wife. Ervin followed through by asking Baron if had already met his future wife.

None of us in the studio expected what he said.

“Baka katabi ko na (she might be seated next to me),” Baron said.

Baron’s unexpected banter instantly threw everyone in the studio in “kilig overload” and eagerly watched out for what’s going to happen.

Baron sensed it and went further, letting go of his “funny” show of affection. He looked for a ring, or a least a make-believe one. I was laughing so hard at what he was doing, then froze grinning with what he did next.

He tore a piece of paper, crumpled it to form a ring, knelt down in front of me and popped the question.

“Would you take my hand in marriage?”, Baron sweetly asked me as he slipped the paper ring into my finger.

I knew the situation was just merely a go-with-the-flow scene so I said, “Of course, certifiably.” But I must admit that the moment got me excited and got me all “kilig.” This was Baron Geisler after all, right?

Baron just won’t let go. He sealed the scene with a kiss on my hand and everyone at the studio just exploded in giggly madness. I was totally caught off guard and it seriously gave me the “teleserye” feel. Everyone was quick to capture the once-in-a-lifetime moment of Baron’s “proposal” to me.

(Abanilla, together with Santiago, hosts the first weekly online entertainment talk show of the Inquirer Group, ShowbizLIVE which airs every Wednesday at 8 p.m. on Inquirer platforms such as Inquirer.net Facebook, Youtube and UStream. The show’s highlights are also fed LIVE on Inquirer.net Twitter (@inquirerdotnet), Inquirer Bandera Twitter (@BanderaInquirer) and chat apps (Viber, Line, Kakao, Firechat, WeChat and SnapChat).
