New breed of moviegoers emerges
CRUZ AND PASCUAL. Take the road less traveled.
Connie Talampas, retired teacher: “The fact that people enjoyed Lav Diaz’s eight-hour film, ‘Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis,’ starring Piolo Pascual and John Lloyd Cruz, proves that a new breed of audience is emerging. It can’t match the popularity of mainstream movies, but its relative success should encourage filmmakers to occasionally take the road less traveled in filmmaking and create more significant, out-of-the-box films!”

Jerome Pili, televiewer: “I would like to commend ‘It’s Showtime’s’ ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ and ‘Eat Bulaga’s’ ‘Just Duet’ for their effort to showcase unknown but exceptional singing talents. There are many outstanding performers out there just waiting to be discovered.”
Sandy Bonsubre, housewife: “Oftentimes, show biz news features celebrities who are involved in scandals. So, it was a breath of fresh air to hear about Ian de Leon coming to the rescue of a 10-year-old boy who was hit by a motorcycle, and rushing him to a hospital. It’s an act worthy of emulation!”
Raffy Manzano, businessman: “Whatever happened to Adolf Alix Jr.’s ‘Padre de Familia,’ starring Nora Aunor and Coco Martin? It was reportedly screened abroad but has yet to be shown commercially in local cinemas. It is eventful because it marks the first time Nora and Coco appear together in a film.”
Danny Calderon, accountant: “We’re glad that Ricky Davao is doing well as a TV director. After the TV series, ‘Little Nanay,’ perhaps he should helm an independent film.”
