Lea Salonga’s dad, ex-SBMA chief Feliciano Salonga, dies

The father of multi-awarded theater actress Lea Salonga and former Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) chief Feliciano Salonga has passed away on Friday, January 29.

He was 85.

Salonga posted an obituary of her father from a newspaper on Twitter.

“Rest in peace, dad,” the caption read.

Feliciano Salonga was the head of SBMA from 2006 to 2013.

He graduated from the US Merchant Marine Academy in New York with a degree in Marine Engineering. He also holds an MBA degree in University of the Philippines.

In 2014, Salonga was one of the top SBMA officials who were indicted by the Office of the Ombudsman for violation of RA 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act or Republic Act (RA) 3019.

The Ombudsman said that the SBMA executives, which included Salonga, “displayed manifest partiality and evident bad faith in the performance of their functions.”

Salonga, along with former Senior Deputy Administrator Ramon Agregado, and former Deputy Administrator Marcelino Sanqui, were also ordered dismissed from service with the accessory penalties of absolute disqualification from public office, forfeiture of retirement benefits, and cancellation of civil service eligibility.
